MAS HAUT BUIS

2014: an extraordinary year

It was an extraordinary year, in the first definition of the word: something that is not ordinary, beyond the usual.

While the winter was mild, with almost no snow on the Larzac Plateau, and the spring rather dry, it started to rain regularly between 15 June and 15 July, and the summer remained wet and fresh. The harvest started on 10 September.

According to Olivier Jeantet, all was set up for a great vintage, with nice flowering and “veraison”, and no disease.

But heavy rains started to fall on 20 September for a few days and again in early October.

“It was important not to panic, and instead to wait and sort out the grapes even more carefully both in the vineyard and in the cellar,” said Olivier Jeantet.

Because of the important rainfalls during the harvest, there was less sugar in the grapes than usual and 1 to 1.5 degree Brix below average.

This gave juicy and tender wines, although still profound.
